Skirt lengths and body types.
Okay, so I know skirts aren't the most popular clothing item, but they are elegant and cute, so you need at least three in your wardrobe. there are about six different skirt lengths.
In case this example picture is too hard to read, the lengths I was referring to are micro, mini, knee length, midi, maxi, and floor. In laymen's terms, and in order, they read like this. upper thigh, mid thigh, right above or at the knee, calf, ankle, and finally the floor, or partially covering your feet. I'm going to take this backward and start form the longest skirts and make my way to the shortest.
The floor length skirt is thought of as being very formal. This might be due to the difficulty some people seem to find when wearing it, hence they reserve it for only the rarest occasions. However, floor length skirts are very comfortable as well, and make for adorable casual wear.
Another great advantage of a floor length skirt, is that depending on the cut and material, it will look great on virtually every body type. A light material will accent the graceful figure of a person with slim legs, while a heavier based cloth with a pre-defined shape, will help a more shapely or heavier person look their very best.
The maxi skirt is one I tend to think of as very informal, but that very well depends on the other features of the skirt. A maxi skirt really draws attention to the model's hips and especially her ankles.
If you have exaggerated hips or ankles that are not particularly slim, for the most part I would try to avoid this length. Just remember though, that this totally depends on the skirt itself and your own opinion.
Midi skirts are classic length skirts, mostly for formal occasions these days. They are simple and cute, and do an excellent job of showing femininity. Unfortunately these skirts are reserved for the women with a more specific body type. You must have slim legs and very small ankles to really look your best in a skirt like this. Another important note, and don't overlook this, is not to wear flip flops or flat shoes with this type of skirt. It will cause you to look dumpy and short. boots or some kind of high heeled shoe is definitely what you should go for.
Knee length skirts are very formal, and very informal. They are chic and elegant, as well as flirty and cute. This type of skirt compliments everyone's figure, and is a must have for your wardrobe in your favourite playful colour.
This skirt length also matches and looks great with every style of shoes. although the images above show very little variety .
If you are looking for things to put in your wardrobe that you will find yourself wearing often and not getting tired or bored of, then a mini is a must.
Mini skirts are another length with a variety of choices that makes it easy to find a perfect one for you no matter what your figure may be. They are very casual, and rarely formal, but it's not unheard of. They look best with heels or boots and, not may people know this, but with thigh high stalkings or socks, they look spectacular.
Our final skirt length is the appropriately named "micro" skirt.
There's not too much to say about this one. Style-wise it's about the same as the mini, but is is even more scandalous. Also this skirt is a risky bet. It seldom looks good on women. I would only wear this of I somehow acquired the perfect figure (very slim hourglass) but those of you who are blessed, should definitely take advantage of that and buy one. Also wear it ;)
That concludes this week's post, if you have anymore questions in your mind about skirt lengths and such, you should find this to be very helpful.
