Suit Simplicity.
Suits are all well and good. Alas I have seen more suits ill used and taken advantage of than I would like to exploit. Suits are also overly used, and sometimes overrated formal wear. The main discord of mine with them, is that they have remained one of the few clothing items that has refused to evolve over decades. The main suit that I would like to protest, and beg that you never own or be caught dead in, is any brightly coloured floral patterned suit.
Suits like this never flatter the person wearing them, they instead make them resemble an ugly piece of furniture or old drapes. Brightly coloured pattern-less suits are more advisable, as they bring out your individuality without making a fool of you.
The main rule for all suits, and this is very important, is that your suits are tailored to fit your personal shape and build. If they are not just the right fit, they will make you look sloppy and a bit tacky. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the whole point of wearing a suit in the first place is to do just the opposite of that. Here are some examples of tailored suits:
And to show the contrast, some suits which were not made to match the body of the consumer:
As always it's your own call, wear things that you look at in the mirror and like the way they look. The other thing I would like to educate my suit wearing audience on is the proper way to button a suit. These are unspoken rules which are being lost due to their silence. Maybe when you were younger you mother was wise enough to teach you these specifics, but in case she never had the chance here they are.
1. if you are wearing a vest with no suit coat, the vest must either remained buttoned all the way up, or all the way loose, with no button fastened.
2. if you are wearing a suit coat with one button. it was designed to be left open. (closed vests compliment this well)
3. if you are wearing a suit coat with two buttons, it is to be worn either unfastened, or with only the top button done.
4. when wearing a suit with three buttons, the top two are to be fastened.
5.and the least common four buttoned suit has the options to be worn with just the top two or three buttons done, or the second button alone.
and just a guideline if you can't remember all this ridiculousness, is never to fasten the bottom button.
That's all folks. If you have any questions, suggestions for future posts that you would like to see done, or just comments on what you think of my blog, select contacts at the top of the page and leave me a message.
